Execution Hollow

A place for odd or rarely told stories about pre-WWI West Point & the Hudson Valley.

Memorial Hall, 1910

Memorial Hall, 1910

I’m going to start posting images of old postcards. This is a nice sepia, divided back view of Memorial Hall, aka Cullum Hall. The text is a note home by a plebe. Note the Dade Monument in front of Cullum. The building, designed by the famous McKim, Mead, and White, is only about a decade old at the time of this photo. The reverse reads:

“6/4–10: This is the dance hall of West Point—Cullum Hall. Don’t worry, It will be a year before I go there for that purpose. FWH”

If you’d like a scan of this postcard for home printing (5.5”x3.5”), keep scrolling to the bottom.

Reverse. The author is most likely Frederick W. Herman, Class of 1914. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
